The competition «Learning implementations with the integration of ICT» targeted primary and secondary schools in Cyprus. The award ceremony of the six winning implementations, among them the one implemented by Achilleas in his school, was held on Saturday 26th of May, 2016, during the conference «Integration of ICT in Learning Process», organized by the Pedagogical Institute of Cyprus. Additionally, a poster session was running during the whole day, in which the participants of the conference had the opportunity to learn more about the winning implementations.
The winning Go-Lab implementation activities of Achilleas were carried out in collaboration with a research group of the University of Cyprus (National Coordinator of the Go-Lab pilot activities in Cyprus). The implementation was held with some secondary students at the A Technical School – Senior Highschool in Limassol, Cyprus. Within the case study, they implemented three Inquiry Learning Spaces (“Craters on Earth”, “Electrical Circuits Simple” & “Electrical Circuits in Depth”) in order to teach the students how to design and execute experiments, as well as to collect scientific data to address a research question. In these ILS, Achilleas had previously integrated the corresponding online labs and several inquiry apps like the Hypothesis Scratchpad, the Experiment Design Tool, the Observation Tool and the Conclusion Tool.
Achilleas is a physicist with 11 years teaching experience and in the current school year he is teaching in the A Technical School – Senior High School, in Limassol. He has been involved in several ICT school programs and he has been integrating innovative strategies, such as inquiry learning, in his teaching practice. Since September 2014, Achilleas is a Go-Lab pilot teacher.
