HYPATIA Masterclasses successfully completed in Greece

  • Past Events

Starting in Chalkida on 29th January 2014 and 19th February, as well as in Argo on February 3rd, HYPATIA Masterclasses were held in Greek High Schools. The HYPATIA (Hybrid Pupil's Analysis Tool for Interactions in Atlas) software enables students together with their teachers to study the fundamental particles of matter and their interactions through the inspection of the graphic visualization of the products of particle collisions. These products are "events" detected by the ATLAS experiment at new world’s most powerful particle accelerator, the LHC (Large Hadron Collider) in the European Particle Research Centre, CERN in Geneva.

The students participating in those Masterclasses could mark as a highlight a live connection to the Control Center of ATLAS where they could learn more about the instrumentation used and they could ask questions to the scientists at CERN. The second highlight of the event was the hands-on exercise performed by the students themselves.

Thanks to the organizers Professor Christine Koukoumelis, Stelios Vourakis and Nikos Tsirintanis, the students had the chance to take a closer insight into the world of science and get inspired by the new technology that the Go-Lab Project and other educational projects are offering.
