Last month, the Go-Lab project participated in the Annual Science fair in the framework of the International Conference on New Frontiers in Physics (ICNFP2016), in Kolymbari, Crete.
During the open day, experiments simulating the early work of particle physicists were presented to the general public. There were some exhibits from ATLAS and CMS and the researchers discussed their work at CERN and their particular experiments with the public. Furthermore, several Go-Lab Inquiry Learning Spaces were introduced, to analyse real data from the LHC accelerator and the ATLAS experiment with the HYPATIA software. In the evening, there was a talk by Prof. T. Tomaras from the University of Crete about the confirmation of Gravitational Waves.
The event was organized for the third consecutive year. Around 50 teachers and 100 students and younger kids participated. The most important outcomes to be pursued were the outreach to the general public, the familiarization of the attendees with the work of CERN and the particular experiments and the familiarization with the HYPATIA ILS, so that teachers can use it in their schools.
